Heidelberg to Lucern(Luzern), Switzerland

We left Heidelberg yesterday morning. The weather still cloudy and chilly but as we made our way to the Black Forest the skies started to clear and a beautiful day began. The trip runs along the rhine and actually skirts the French Border. About half way through the forest we arrived at a family owned attraction where they make cuckoo clocks, and sell all sorts of "touristy" items. The owner met us with samples of cherry wine that they produce and sell and we had lunch upstairs before heading to Rhine Falls the largest plain waterfall in Europe (pictured above). We arrived Lucern where we went on a walking tour with our guide thought the old sections of Lucern and along the Lake Lucern. Dinner was an authentic Swiss meal and entertainment at The Stadkeller. Swiss folk music, yodeling, flag throwing and Alphorn Blowing! (think the Riccola commercial) I got to blow the horn as they called up people from the audience! We are spending two nights here in Lucern so after dinner we went back to the Hotel Astoria bar with two other couples we met for drinks. Most everyone we have met from as far away as New Zealand and Australia have been very friendly. The couples we had drinks with are from New York and Florida.

I write this as we travel over to Mount Pilatus overlooking Lucerne and Central Switzerland and views of the Alps. More to come.
