Columbus Day Weekend at Solomons Island
We left Oceanport Saturday morning for Solomons Island MD. The idea was to explore a few campgrounds today(Sunday) in the area. Most notably Point Lookout State Park. Well the weather has not been cooperating (picture above is Saturday afternoon). In fact today is supposed to be minor coastal flooding.
After a 4 and a half hour leisurely drive we arrived in Solomons around 2PM. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at The Striped Rock. I had the Crab Cake sandwich while BA enjoyed a burger. A couple of glasses of Hess Select charddonay and lunch was a big success!
We checked in right after at The Blue Heron Inn BandB managed by Amanda Comer. She is also the chef of the inn's retaurant, Belle Maison Bistro. Amanda received her training at Le Cordon Blue in Paris as well as the CIA in Hyde Park. While checking in Amanda asked if we had made dinner plans yet and of course we chose to dine here!
Our room at the inn is a two room suite with a sitting room pictured above leading to the rain soaked balcony where the outdoor picture was taken.
At dinner, after sharing a salad, we enjoyed a Linguine with a Carrot, Olive and Tomato puree with eggplant and mushrooms and Flatiron steak with polenta, goat cheese and tomatillos along with a nice Pinot Noir.
Dessert was key lime pie and pistacio gelato.
One cool note. They served water in a carafe with cucumbers. I don' think I ever saw that before. Wonderful refreshing idea!
